This song to me is kinda hard to decipher what Jeremy Camp is trying to say. But in the first verse its saying that the crown of thorns showed that the person was undignified i guess. and the second verse is saying that while being on the cross being cursed by God, he had the grace to erase every sin we commit and thats why He really came. And the viel was torn so that we could go directly to God and not through a high priest (hence the open door).
could the first verse be talking about the fact that although the crown of thorns was brutal and awful and indignified, only beauty came from it because we can believe in what Jesus did for us now and spend eternity with him?
Ya i think the first verse could be saying that. When i read the lyrics the whole beauty thing threw me off alittle bit.
In the begining it is talking about christ by saying would YOU take the nails from his hands and his feet and would WE take his place. I think the mojority of the earth would say NO because we are..well human. I don’t think that i would take his place.
Jesus died for us and we care so much of ourselves these days that we wouldn’t even think of repaying him or taking his place.

Okay, when people say, “he died on the cross for us” we don’t think of it as a big deal. But after that video, it really reminds me of what he really went through. That makes me feel like I’m the one who killed Christ (which is true). I agree Amy, I don’t like to admit it, but I would probably not take his place either. I also think when he says “Would you take the place of this man?” It also is saying that we wouldn’t, and that we can’t, and Christ is the only one who can do it.

Happy Easter! Christ is risen! Christ is risen indead! Jen chose the perfect song for this time of year and I just want to say that easter, as you all probably know, is NOT about the egg searchs or the gifts you may get, it is about how christ was crusified for our sins. AND ROSE AGAIN! Amazing what god/christ can do.
Anyways the lyrics are talking about how we are so full of sin that we won’t even pay a dept when just asked the question. Would you take the place of this man? Would you take his pain? The answer is no. We should want to but that would mean that we would go to hell and no one wants that. And as Kris talks about in suday school: “fair would be all of us going to hell” and that is very scary. But god loves us and decided to keep the number of people that will choose to fallow him. (Christians)

I think the lyrics are talking about how Jesus on the Cross was supposed to be a big victory for ‘man’, but really it was the opposite. Jesus dying on the Cross showed His love for us, and He was the same on the Cross as always. He didn’t curse the guards, or call out for help. He just took the blow for us, out of love. The song is challenging us, asking us, would we take His place now? It says that Jesus died so we could have eternal life.
I see what you mean, Jesus on the cross looked like He had lost and the world won. Good point. I think it makes us ask the question ‘am i able to love others in such a way that i do not strike back or defend myself?’ How does this tie in with Kris’ talk on self-defense and capital punishment?

. Anyways, I think what Jen says ties into kris’ “talk” by humans always defending themselves, and making up lies and excuses. But God put up with all the pain and insults because he loved us that much. I don’t know if it’s possible for a human to have that much love for someone else. Wait, is that true, is it possible for people to love others just as much as God does?
i agree with Maximus Prime. and to answer your question i am not sure if people can love each other the way God does, even though as Christians we should love like that, mainly because we find alot of faults in our friends, parents, enemies,etc. but if we put all of that aside i guess its just a matter of your heart and determination to love others. O! and about the cross showing the depth of his grace i think was that dying on the cross was such a horrible disgraceful way to die. and the fact that any man hung on a tree or cross like Jesus and the other people were cursed by God. and Jesus was willing to be cursed by God and go through litterally hell on the cross for us. so i am pretty darn thankful that he did!

The Cross is beautiful because it proves God’s love for us. Our sins were nailed to the Cross, so it shows victory over Satan. It also shows that even though Jesus was nailed to the Cross, He rose again 3 days later. It reminds me of the song, “At the Cross, at the Cross, where I first saw the light, and the burden of my heart rolled away.”
This ties on to capital punishment by like maybe if someone is convicted of death, you could ask to make it just a sentence in jail. Or you could visit and pray for that person.

The vidio is very sad and gory.And I think that it does go with the lyrics very well saying that he went though so much pain and how we wouldn’t want/enjoy to be crusified on a cross and have people spit and push you around. And how the lyrics say, ” would you take the place of this man? ” and by the things the vidio shows, i wouldn’t take his place and suffer that pain. it would be awefull! It makes me very sad to watch the vidio because it shows the huge amount that christ suffered for doing miricles and that isn’t right!
In sunday school today, we were talking about how we need to take care of ourselves, and like – not commit suicide and stuff. And watching that video makes me mad when people are doing horrible things to themselves after everything Christ did for us to keep us safe. OH, and remember all girls- no being flirtatious!

Yes, I think the video does match the lyrics because it shows the hatred and digust we had for Christ, then Jesus there still loving us. If you watch it, it is really powerful in the sense that we should learn from our mistake, and accept Jesus Christ.

Well, no, the video didn’t really show only beauty flowing, but if you think of the actions of Christ, and how the “Jesus” reacted, I guess it could be considered beauty to those who believe in Him.

McKenzie, I am really sorry about the thing with your friend. I know that is really tough. And I agree McKenzie, it affects our belonging to the body by us being a church. Where we all get together with other Christians and worship God and possibly teach others about Christ too.

Well, she was a first, unbeliver and would say “OMG” all the time and when I would ask her to stop she woould act like I was stupid or weird. and she also went around MY back and told a whole bunch of people that I liked someone and I didn’t. that really hurt me. she also put McKenzie on You tube with out even asking her. And she has led me to do things I wish i’d never done/said.

I think one way we can be a blessing to others is by taking the nails out of their hands. We can thank people who have helped us and been with us, and we can try to do the same for others. We should be willing to help, and try to learn more about Christ and spreading it because the veil was torn, and we can learn as much as we want and are willing to do to learn of Jesus’ life.
I would’ve thought SOMEBODY else would want to blog also, but I guess I’m just talking to myself….
Well I also was thinking about the line “To show disgrace but only beauty flowed from this place.” It’s kind of how we need to live. While sticking up for what’s right isn’t always the most popular choice, or not hanging out with people makes you seem uncool, it’s what God wants us to do, and it’s what Jesus did for us. He didn’t have to speak out. He didn’t have to heal and preach the truth, and make the Pharisees angry. But He did. So we try to be like Jesus.
that’s eactly what I was hoping we would talk about….how does this challenge us to be in the world, but not of it? I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it should motivate us to live like Jesus. When I get angry cuz someone is rude or says something not nice, it means I am putting myself in front of others and not trying to honor God. It is such a challenge, but like we talked about at Christ group on Sunday if we keep the cross in front of us, it shrinks the pain of what we are going through.

Anyways…, i think that what your saying is so true!I see a kid that is always rude therefore hated by basically everone and I say “hi” and it really puts a smile on his face and when he puts himself down I try to build him up as much as possible, but it is still hard to do since just about nobody likes or even cares about him and the movie that we watched really made me think. It probably wouldn’t hurt a lot of kids if he commited suside because of the thing he says and I really try to show him the possitives in life not the easiest thing in the world, but if I don’t think about myself, then it wouldn’t be hard at all to be his friend.

This passage shows that they did not treat him fairly in any way, shape, or form and that is just not okay. Now i do understand that if I was there I would have treated him just as well.(even ELLIE!) And he was ‘gone’ and his spirit went to heaven and we are so, so, so, so, so, so, so, lucky(: !!!!!!!!

But everyone should have been by his side and protesting about his death, but almost all humans care about is how they fit in and if the people weren’t thinking about themselves then Jesus wouldn’t have “gone”.
